Below is an overview of how users can manage and update their privacy settings, notification preferences, block other members, and export their personal data within the App’s account settings.
Accessing Account Settings
- Log In:
Sign in to your App account using your username and password.
Navigate to Account Settings:
Once logged in, tap on your profile image or username located in the App’s main navigation menu.
From the dropdown menu, select “Account Settings.”
Updating Privacy Settings
In the Account Settings menu, look for a “Privacy” or “Privacy Settings” option. Here, you can:
- Profile Visibility:
Choose who can see your profile information—only you, your approved connections, or all members. - Activity Visibility:
Determine whether your recent activities (e.g., posts, updates, achievements) are visible to everyone or restricted to your chosen audience. - Personal Details:
Adjust what personal information (like location, age, school) is displayed publicly on your profile.
Each privacy setting typically includes a dropdown menu or toggle button, allowing you to select the desired visibility level. After making changes, tap “Save” or “Apply” to confirm your updated preferences.
Using Social Login
What is Social Login?
Social login allows you to sign up or log in to the App using your existing accounts from platforms such as Google, Apple, or other popular social networks. This simplifies account creation and authentication by letting you use credentials you already trust, rather than creating a brand-new username and password.
Connecting Your Social Accounts
- During Sign-Up:
When you first create an account on the App, you may see options like “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple.” Selecting one of these options directs you to the respective service’s login page, where you can grant permission for the App to access basic profile information (e.g., name, email). - After Account Creation:
If you already have an App account but want to connect a social login for convenience, go to your “Account Settings” and look for a “Social Login” or “Linked Accounts” section. Follow these steps:- Click on “Connect” or “Add” next to the social service you’d like to link.
- Approve the connection on the social platform’s authentication page.
- Once completed, you can log in to the App using that social account in the future.
Managing Your Social Logins
View Linked Accounts:
Within the “Account Settings” or “Social Login” page, you can see which social accounts are currently linked to your profile.
Remove or Disconnect Accounts:
If you no longer wish to log in with a certain social account, select the “Disconnect” or “Remove” button next to that account. This revokes the App’s access and prevents future login attempts from that service. Removing a social login does not delete your App account, it only removes that login method. You will still be able to log in using your original username and password (or any other linked social accounts).
Privacy and Permissions:
When you connect a social login, the third-party service may share limited profile information with the App (e.g., your email address). Review the permissions requested during the linking process to ensure you’re comfortable with what’s being shared. You can also visit your social platform’s privacy settings to manage which applications have access to your information.
Changing Notification Settings
Under “Notifications” or “Notification Settings,” you can manage how and when the App notifies you about activities related to your account:
- Email Notifications:
Toggle email alerts for new messages, friend requests, mentions, or comments. - Push Notifications:
Enable or disable push notifications that appear on your device’s screen. - Frequency Controls:
Choose whether you receive immediate alerts or daily/weekly summaries.
Review the available notification categories, switch them on or off as needed, and press “Save” to confirm changes.
Blocking Members
If you encounter unwanted interactions, you can block certain members directly through their profile:
- Visit the Member’s Profile:
Navigate to the profile of the member you wish to block. - Select the Block Option:
Look for the “Block” button or option within their profile menu. Tap it to block that user. - Confirm the Block:
Confirm your choice when prompted. Once blocked, this member will not be able to send you messages, view your profile (if privacy settings allow), or interact with your content.
You can review or unblock members from within the Account Settings, typically under a “Blocked Members” list, where you can manage your blocked contacts and restore communication if desired.
Exporting Your Data
If you wish to download or export your personal data (such as profile information, messages, or activity history), follow these steps:
- Data Export Request:
In “Account Settings” or “Privacy Settings,” find the “Export Data” or “Download Your Information” option. - Select Data Categories:
Choose which types of data you want to include in the export (e.g., profile info, posts, messages, activity logs). - Submit Request:
After selecting the desired data categories, click “Request Export.” The system will process your request and prepare a downloadable file. - Download Your File:
Once the export is ready (you may receive an email or notification), you can download the file in a commonly used format (often .zip or .json).
